The bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis), also known as the Rocky Mountain ram or Canadian mouflon, is a species related to the Eurasian mouflon , from which he diverged when crossing the Bering Strait in the Pleistocene. It grows larger(can reach a weight of 500lb and up to 105 cm (41 in) tall at the shoulder) than its European relative, the size of its antlers is also larger. Females have small horns that in the European case are usually absent or of a smaller size. It is better adapted to cold and snow than its European counterpart.

It inhabits mountainous and desert areas of western North America, from Canada to Mexico. It can reach altitudes above 4,000m(13,000 feet).
