Roe buck in feeding

Female roe buck feeding with a bush.

The diet of roe deer consists mainly of leaves and herbs. They can also eat some fruits such as acorns, mushrooms and lichens. When they feed on the leaves of trees and shrubs, they usually choose the most tender shoots. In the forests of the Montserrat Natural Park and the Puigventós Natural Reserve, they eat the shoots of the downy oak (Quercus humilis), the alaternus (Rhamnus alaternus, as in the video), the service tree (Sorbus domestica), etc ... they can enter crops and feed on shoots of almond trees, cherry trees, apple trees, peaches, pear trees, etc. That is why in areas where roe deer abound, it can cause damage to some young fruit trees, up to a height of 1 meter.
