White reindeer in a taiga forest in Finland.
White or albino reindeer are very strange cases. This coloration gives them an advantage in mimicry during the winter but a clear disadvantage during the summer season. In the Nordic countries of Europe, white reindeer are considered as bearers of good luck. In other animal species, specimens affected by albinism or leucism, may be rejected by their counterparts, in the case of reindeer, this rejection does not usually occur.
