The bruna cow It is a breed with origin in the Lerida Pyrenees, with mainly meat aptitude. The origin of this breed is attributed to the mixture of Swiss cows together with the Pyrenean cows from Lerida (Pallars, Valle de Aran and Ribagorça mainly). From brune cow herds like this, the exquisite meat of "vedella bruna dels pirineus" is obtained. Nowadays is present in all catalan Pyenees, in the regions of Val d'Aran, Pallars Jussà, Pallars Sobirà, Alta Ribagorça, Alt Urgell, Solsonés, La Cerdanya, Berguedà, Ripollés and la Garrotxa.

The bruna cow is also present in regions outside the Pyrenees, such as Bages, Osona, Anoia and Baix Llobregat (Montserratí part). In the second image, can se a herd of cows of the «bruna of the pyrenees» breed, grazing on the north slope of the Montserrat Massif, in the municipalities of Marganell and Castellbell i el Vilar.
